Overview
Bear Creek Mountain Resort completed Phase 1 of a major renovation to the main lodge and food areas that significantly increased overall energy consumption and operating costs. Phase 2 involved an HVAC Energy Efficiency.
GEMM Founder K. Scott Sine PE and Lead Engineer / GEMM President of Consulting Mike Eustice PE respectively, masterplanned and designed the HVAC system to both comfortably and cost effectively handle large capacity events on an as needed basis, while remaining highly energy efficient throughout daily (non-event) operations.
The comprehensive project had to be started/completed in the ski resort’s “off season” and involved multiple buildings with various functions, including a high-end 116 room hotel (some two-story suites), a year-round heated pool, spas, wedding centers, conference rooms and large commercial air-conditioned kitchens.
By integrating innovative low-temperature VAV air distribution, high-efficiency VFD chillers, cost-effective ductwork and piping features, Phase 2 – Energy Efficiency measures delivered 30% - 50%+ annual energy savings for the Phase 1 renovations.
Bear Creek Mountain Ski Resort, Hotel & Conference Center is one of the top 10 largest ski resorts in Pennsylvania, nestled on over 330 wooded acres in scenic Lehigh Valley.
